What should you do if your home and property are damaged? What is the right thing to do to get insurance compensation?

1. Instructions on how to act in the event of an insured event

First and foremost:
  1. Immediately upon becoming aware, but in any case not later than 2 calendar days, notify INGO Insurance Company of the occurrence of an insured event in any convenient way listed.
  2. To make a written notice of the event and send it to the Insurer within 3 working days from the date when the Insured learned or should have learned of the occurrence of circumstances that have signs of an insured event.
  3. Depending on the nature of the event, contact the competent authorities to establish the fact, causes and consequences of the event (SES, police, gas service, housing and communal services, etc.)
  4. Provide the insurance company with the necessary documents to establish the causes, nature of the insured event, and determine the amount of damage.
  5. Submit a claim for insurance indemnity to the insurer. The decision on payment of insurance indemnity shall be made by the Insurer within 30 calendar days from the date of submission by the Insured of the last of the required documents specified in the terms and conditions of the insurance contract.

2. Documents required for insurance indemnity

General list of documents
  1. Written notification of an event
  1. Insurance contract
  2. Passport, TIN of the insured/beneficiary
  3. Title documents confirming the property interest of the insured/beneficiary in the insured property
  4. Application for payment of insurance indemnity.

At the request of the insurer, other documents necessary in each particular case to confirm the occurrence of an insured event, determine its causes, calculate the amount of damage, identify the guilty parties, etc.

List of documents depending on the nature of the event

1. «Fire»

Upon occurrence of Insured event under risk «Fire» the Insured shall provide the following documents

  • a fire report from the competent authorities of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine;
  • a document confirming the acceptance and registration of the application that was entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations;
  • a copy of the decision to close the criminal proceedings (if any);
  • certificate on the status of pre-trial investigation as of the current date (upon additional request of the Insurer);
  • technical opinion of fire investigation specialists of the State Fire Protection Service of Ukraine (upon additional request of the Insurer).

2. «Smoke damage»

Upon occurrence of an insured event under the risk «Smoke damage»

  • a fire report from the competent authorities of the SES of Ukraine.

3. «Explosion of gas used for household needs»

In the event of an insured event under the risk «Explosion of gas used for household needs»:

  • an act or certificate of the state or municipal service supervising the operation of the gas network on the causes and amount of damage, indicating technical defects, violations of operating standards, guilty parties, etc.

4. «Lightning strike», «Natural disasters»

In the event of an insured event under the risks «Lightning strike» and «Natural disasters»

  • a certificate from the meteorological services describing the natural phenomena (their nature) as of the date of the insured event, which caused destruction and/or damage to the insured property.

5. «Fall of manned flying objects»

Upon occurrence of an insured event under the risk «Crash of manned flying objects»

  • a certificate from an authorized state body confirming the fact of the accident.

6. «Damage by industrial water»

In the event of an insured event under the risk «Process water damage»:

  • an act/reference from specialized services responsible for maintenance and/or supervision of water supply and similar systems, indicating the cause of failure of such systems. This document is mandatory and shall be provided only if the incident was caused by a third party.

7. «Burglary, robbery or assault», «Unlawful acts of third parties»

Upon occurrence of an insured event under the risks «Burglary, robbery or assault» and «Unlawful acts of third parties»:

  • an extract from the Unified State Register of Pre-trial Investigations;
  • a copy of the decision to close the criminal proceedings (if any);
  • a certificate on the status of the pre-trial investigation as of the current date at the additional request of the insurer;
  • a certificate from the police or the investigating authority on the list of stolen (damaged) property.

3. What shouldn't be done?

  • Ignore the need to contact the contact center
  • Get rid of the damaged property
  • Repair the damaged premises until it is inspected by an insurance company representative
  • Pay for repair services on your own without notifying the contact center

How quickly can a company representative inspect the damage to the apartment?

As a rule, the inspection of damaged housing is carried out within 1-5 days, depending on the nature of the damage and the case. In any case, we suggest that you set the time for the inspection of the damaged property together with an INGO specialist. Jointly draw up an insured event inspection report and a description of the damaged property.

Is smoke damage considered an insured event?

Yes, if the center of smoke is in the same building as the insured dwelling

Can rainwater flooding of an apartment be considered an insured event?

Losses caused by rain or snowfall shall be indemnified only if the amount of precipitation exceeds 30 mm for a period of 1 hour (60 minutes) or 50 mm for a period of 12 hours

Will I be able to receive insurance indemnity if my home is damaged by an explosion of a missile or other aircraft?

Yes, but only if your apartment or house is insured under the All Risks program, which covers war perils, among other things.
